Even before the recent controversy surrounding the playing of the national anthem and politics, the NFL has always enjoyed a lot of media coverage. News of all the injuries that happen both in pre-season and on the field during regular season could probably cover an entire 24-hour news cycle. If only we had a dollar for every injury stat recorded in professional football every day!
Jordan Reed, tight end for our local Washington Redskins, has been dealing with a preseason toe injury, which – along with other injuries to his chest and shoulder – has kept him on the day-to-day list. How frustrating it must be for Reed and his teammates to see him sidelined for these first several games of the season.
So it is with our patients at Clifton Foot & Ankle Center, located in Fairfax county. They may not be professional ball players, but our patients are just as frustrated to be taken away from their own day-to-day activities by something like a toe injury.
Is it broken?
It’s pretty easy to determine if you’ve injured your toe. If you’ve tripped on the stairs, dropped something on your toes, or connected foot to ball in just the wrong way, look out for symptoms like these:
- discoloration (bruising)
- difficulty walking
Any of these symptoms can point to a simple strain or sprain. However, they can also mean that you’ve fractured a bone. It’s not always easy to tell. Your best bet is to make an appointment with Dr. Kenneth R. Wilhelm in order to be sure that you’re treating your injury properly. Improper treatment of a broken toe can leave you vulnerable to further injury, a permanently disfigured toe, or arthritis in the future, so be sure to get Dr. Wilhelm’s professional diagnosis right away.
Dr. Wilhelm and our caring staff of certified podiatric medical assistants welcome you to our office in Centreville, Virginia for an accurate assessment of your toe injury using on-site digital x-ray. Make an appointment online or give us a phone call at (703) 996-3000. We’ll do our best to ease your symptoms and get you back in the game as soon as possible.
