5 Ways Men Can Take Better Care of Their Feet
Guys, we’re talking to you today.
June is Men’s Health Awareness Month: four weeks dedicated to the idea that if men were to know more about their health, they’d recognize problems earlier. They’d go to the doctor without fear. And they wouldn’t let a small problem become a big one.
Dr. Kenneth R. Wilhelm at Clifton Foot & Ankle Center can be your partner in recognizing and treating foot and ankle problems – before they get worse. There’s no need to be fearful because Dr. Wilhelm spends quality time with each patient to explain what’s going on. He will present the most current treatment options and help you decide the best course of action for you.
Increase your foot health awareness by adopting these five ways to take better care of your feet:
- Make their acquaintance. Take a moment to examine both feet and learn what’s normal for you. This way, you’re better prepared to recognize a problem – a toe that looks clawed, a mole that suddenly looks different, an area that’s sensitive to the touch, or that you can’t feel at all.
- Trim your toenails the right way. Don’t cut them on an angle or curve. The correct way is straight across, which helps prevent ingrown toenails.
- Get a salon pedicure – they’re not just for women. Regular pedicures keep your feet and toes manicured, moisturized, and looking their best. They’re also good for providing some much-needed relaxation.
- Wear the right shoes. Men’s shoes should fit properly and provide adequate support. With summer almost in full swing now, remember that flip-flops are good for preventing fungal infections. But they’re not the best choice for all-day wear.
- Consult a qualified podiatrist when you’ve got a problem. It is crucial for men with diabetes who should visit our board-certified podiatrist at least once a year. Dr. Wilhelm provides outstanding podiatric services to residents of Fairfax County and the greater D.C. area. To make an appointment, call (703) 996-3000 or contact us online.
